Andy Collins is no stranger to the FOXTEL Cup.
He holds the unique honour of being the only coach to have officiated in all four seasons of the knockout competition, and is the reigning FOXTEL Cup premiership coach having won the title with West Adelaide last year.
Collins’ credentials and knowledge of the competition, coupled with Williamstown’s previous experience in the FOTXEL Cup – winning the inaugural Cup in 2011 – has the VFL’s remaining team well placed in 2014.
“We are really excited playing at home, playing on the MCG,” Williamstown coach Andy Collins said in the lead up to the game.
“It is a goal of ours to do really well in the FOXTEL Cup, and our first opponent Aspley is right up there in the NEAFL at the moment.
“I have seen them play, and it is going to be a really good contest. We have recognised a few of their players already, and they look a very good and complete team.”
Aspley has won its last three games in a row; completing a 125 point towelling of NT Thunder in Round 7 to be sitting three games off top spot on the NEAFL ladder.
Williamstown has made 12 changes to the lineup that defeated Geelong by 25 points on the weekend, with the likes of Ben Jolley, Kane Lambert, Anthony Anastasio, Peter Faulks and Nick Meese rested for this clash. Scott Clouston will lead the side as captain after his five goal haul on the weekend.
The opportunity will now be given to five of Williamstown’s best six from its Round 6 Development League game, with Andrew Gallucci (11 goals this season), Charlie Nastasi, Ben Casley, Dale Hoghton and Steve McCallum all set to play for the Seagulls Tuesday night.
“The squad we have for the FOXTEL Cup, everyone has played a senior game.
“There will be no debutants or rookies in the side, with everyone having played senior football over the last 12 months with the club.”
Williamstown hosts Aspley Tuesday May 20 at the MCG – entry is FREE. Entry via Gate 2 from 8pm, with no parking available in Yarra Park.
Game starts at 8:35pm, with the match broadcast on FOX Footy from 8:30pm.
Listen to the Peter Jackson VFL Podcast Tuesday for an in depth interview with Andy Collins about the season so far, and the FOXTEL Cup preparations.
