PORT MELBOURNE has thumped the Northern Territory Thunder by 88 points at TIO Stadium on Saturday, showing exactly why they are considered one of the favourites to win the Foxtel Cup.
The Thunder did well to hang in the game in the first quarter and were assisted by Port Melbourne, who fell in to the trap of overusing the ball.
But the Borough addressed this flaw at quarter time, and some smarter ball use and aggressive spread from the stoppage helped them blow the game open.
They won 21.11. (137) to 7.7 (49).
Port Melbourne’s approach became more direct, with forward Sam O’Sullivan benefitting most, finishing with seven goals in a dominant display.
Port Melbourne’s Mitch Woffindin was far and away the most influential midfielder with 30 touches and two goals, nine disposals better than anyone else on the ground.
The Borough seized the ascendancy between the second and third quarter slamming on 13 goals to one during the onslaught.
