Federal MPs Anna Burke and Nicola Roxon have once again placed a wager on the outcome of the Williamstown v Box Hill match which will be played at Box Hill City Oval on Saturday. Every year the MPs back their sides into the game hoping they come up with the 4 points which will earn them bragging rights until the next clash. This year the party of the unsuccessful side will be donating funds to the clubs respective U18 Youth Girls team.
If Williamstown are to be successful, Anna Burke will be donating to the Williamstown Youth Girls who debuted this year. The team showed marked improvement as the season progressed, finishing 7th on the ladder. The girls have thoroughly enjoyed their first taste of footy, and are looking to build on this effort for the 2012 season to make their way up the ladder.
In contrast, if Box Hill run over the top of the second placed Seagulls, it will be Nicola Roxon who contributes Box Hill’s Youth Girls affiliate Whitehorse.
Box Hill and Williamstown will also be battling it out for the inaugural East vs West Trophy which is played for between the two clubs every year. The shield was an initiative developed by the two MPs in 2002 who love their Peter Jackson VFL footy, and are very passionate about their respective teams.
The winning tally currently stands at 6-3 in favour of the Seagulls, who will also be looking to win the trophy for the 4th year in a row, in what is to be a critical game for the Gulls to set up their September campaign. The Seagulls must win this clash to continue the fight against North Ballarat for second place on the ladder, and the all-important home final. Box Hill Hawks are just one win away from eliminating all the mathematical equations for Sandringham and Coburg below them on the Peter Jackson VFL ladder.
Williamstown Football and Development Manager Chris Dixon said “The Williamstown Youth Girls side have had a successful first season and are looking to build for 2012. We’d like to thank Federal MP Nicola Roxon and Anna Burke for their support and we hope our seniors can provide the Williamstown Youth Girls with some additional funding this Saturday.”
The match this week is a Box Hill home game to be played at Box Hill City Oval on Saturday 20 August. For those who can’t make it to the game, it will be broadcast live on ABCTV from 1pm.
