Frankston will host Essendon in the ABC TV game this Saturday. Steve O’Brien previews the game.
Essendon will be a tough prospect this week for Frankston, as the Bombers set their sights on a third consecutive win. They have three changes with Kyle Hardingham and Jackson Merrett recalled to the AFL team and Fremantle recruit Josh Mellington missing . Elliott Kavanagh, Aaron Heppell and Lachie Dalgleish come back into the side.
Anthony Tipungwuti the excitement machine who looked as though he may have suffered a season ending knee injury in the round 4 encounter against Collingwood, has been named as an inclusion on an extended interchange bench .Alex Hickey will once again be the Dons 23rd man.
Russell Gabriel and his group of hard nosed midfielders headed by Josh Tynan, Ben Cavarra , Corey Buchan and Leigh Kitchin loom as the stumbling block for the Bombers . The Dolphins have dangerous marking forwards in Khan Haretuku and Michael Lourey who will try and improve on his 1 goal 5 of last week .Frankston will be looking for these players with support of livewire Ziggie Alwan to kick a winning score, but will need to work on their accuracy which has deserted them this season.
Essendon have talent on every line , players such as Leroy Jetta coming off 25 possessions last week , Cory Dell Olio with 3 goals last week and surprise packet Daniel Coghlan who amassed 30 possessions in the win over Coburg.
The Bombers season hinges on this match as they face a tough month ahead taking on the current top 4 sides.
The Dolphins will be itching to notch their 2nd win of the season, and will try and expose the Bombers for a lack of a back up ruckman to Sam Tagliabue.
VERDICT: I think in a hard fought contest with so much hinging on the result Essendon will prevail by 12 pts
