Bendigo has inked two key off-season signings with captain James Flaherty and tall forward Blair Holmes.
Bendigo Bombers General Manager Peter Lodewijks said the club was thrilled to retain its captain's services.
"James has established himself as a well respected player in the VFL competition and during a very challenging season 2008, he has also shown that he is a very capable and respected leader both on and off the field. We are thrilled that James is committed to the Bendigo Bombers for 2009," Lodewijks said.
Flaherty expected Bendigo to once again challenge for the finals after a lacklustre 2008.
‘I am very confident that the direction the club is taking under Adrian Hickmott and Peter Lodewijks is the right one, the initiatives and the work that everyone around the club is doing is tremendous and shows their commitment to the future success of the club," Flaherty said.
"I am excited to be part of what promises to be an exciting time for the Bendigo Bombers and urge everyone to support us."
Following his captain's lead, Holmes re-signed for another two seasons with the Bendigo Bombers.
"Blair has had a terrific season in 2008. In his first season in the VFL, he finished 3rd in the senior Best and Fairest, which is a fantastic result," Lodewijks said.
"We are glad that Blair also has committed to at least another two years with the club. With sponsors committing for multiple years and now key players also committing for multiple years, we are establishing the foundations for future success."
