Two games completed Round 10 today, with Essendon and Frankston taking the points.
Frankston broke through for its first win of the 2014 season, while Essendon held on in a thrilling final term to keep in contact with the VFL top 8 teams.
We take a look at both games in the Sunday night wrap:
Bombers much needed win
Essendon has held on for a dramatic one point win against Werribee Tigers at Avalon Airport Oval today. Despite kicking away from the Tigers and looking home twice in the final term, Essendon could not shake the home side who never gave up but eventually falling agonisingly short.
After kicking the first three goals of the game, Essendon were only able to add one more before half time, as Werribee got the upper hand to lead by 18 points at half time. Despite Werribee extending their lead to 23 points midway through the third term, the Bombers ended the quarter with a flurry kicking five unanswered goals to lead by eight points at the final change.
Essendon were challenged to within a point twice in the final term, but were able to hold on for a much needed win to keep in contact with the top 8. Shaun Edwards created the highlight of the final term with a big grab (pictured) and goal to give the Bombers breathing space in time on.
Leroy Jetta, Ben Duscher and Travis Colyer were among the best for the Bombers, with Jacob Thompson (3), Hardingham (2) and Alistair Kefford the visitors leading goal kickers.
Ben Speight and Brown kicked three each for Werribee, while Taylor Hine, Daw and Brown were the Tigers best.
Dolphins first win
The drought is over for Frankston, producing its first win of the 2014 season with a 36 point victory over Bendigo. In the battle of the bottom two teams on the Peter Jackson VFL ladder, Frankston overcame inaccuracy towards goal to record the first win for the club since Round 16, 2013.
Frankston increased its lead at every change, finally able to finish off a game when leading in the third term much to the joy of coach Simon Goosey. A four goal to two final term saw the Dolphins home, with Damian Garner, Ben Cavarra and Tim Harper their multiple goal scorers with two each. Corey Buchan was the best for the home side, along with Cavarra, Luke Potts and Nick Newman.
Jesse Collins was the major goal scorer for Bendigo with four, with Joe Redfern, Jesse Wallin and Matt Farrelly their best.
