Geelong and Collingwood will go head to head tonight under-lights at Simonds Stadium. The game will not only be important as the top eight teams try to secure the four points, but also for the fact that Geelong will be donating their gate receipts to the Casey Tutungi Future Fund.
Tutungi, a player and co-coach of the South Barwon Football Club, and former Geelong VFL player, has been diagnosed as a quadriplegic following a clash with an opponent during the last few minutes of the game against St Joseph’s in the Geelong Football League mid June.
The Geelong community has rallied behind him in support, with Friday nights donation the first part of a number of events and initiatives to support Tutungi not only by the Geelong region, but also across the State.
The major initiative in the region is the “Coming together for Casey” Round on the weekend of July 27. The Round will become a dedicated round across the Geelong region and the state to raise money for Casey. All teams across the Geelong Football League, Bellarine Football League, Geelong and District Football League and Colac District Football League will fundraise through club functions, player/member donations, events and gate takings to contribute directly to the Casey Tutungi Future Fund. The Geelong Football Club (AFL) will use its Saturday night clash with St Kilda to fundraise both at the gate and within the ground.
The ten clubs across the state that raise the most money on the weekend of July 27 for the Casey Tutungi Future Fund will go into the draw to win the ultimate local club football experience. The winning club will become an “AFL club for the day” in the 2014 preseason including:
• 46 players from the club brought to the Geelong Football Club
• Team meeting in players auditorium with Geelong coaching panel
• Gym session with Cats conditioning staff
• Main training session on Simonds Stadium conducted by Chris Scott and entire Cats coaching staff which will be filmed and provided to club afterwards
• Lunch prepared by players’ chef Adrian Millman
• Recovery session including full use of Cats facilities and massages
• Full set of Geelong Cats training jumpers to use on the day and then keep
• Memorabilia pack for club to use for future fundraising.
NB. Donations have to be made directly to Casey Tutungi Future Fund account under the name of the Football Club making the donation.
The top 10 donations made before Monday the 5th of August (COB) will go into the draw. See flyer below for more information.
