We take a brief look at each of the Saturday games:
CASEY SCORPIONS d COLLINGWOOD: Casey Scorpions jumped to top spot on the Peter Jackson VFL ladder tonight with a crushing 90-point win over Collingwood. The Scorpions led at every change, and restricted the visitors to just seven goals whilst kicking 21 themselves for the big win. Tom Couch and James Magner were again ball magnets for the Scorpions, recording 41 and 40 disposals respectively, leading the way in the middle.
The pairing led the best players for Casey along with Luke Tynan (29 d), Jesse Hogan (15 and 9 marks/ 2 goals), Troy Davis (26) and Jake Spencer (13 & 26 hitouts). Ben Hughes and Spencer led the goal kicking with two each for Casey, whilst Tim Broomhead (22 disposals) was the Magpies only multiple goal kicker. Caolan Mooney, Tim Allan and Peter Yagmoor were the best for Collingwood, with Ben Moloney (28) having the most disposals.
WERRIBEE TIGERS d FRANKSTON: Werribee Tigers came back from 33 points down at the 10 minute mark of the second term, to record a 39 point win against Frankston. The first quarter and a half was all Frankston as Michael Lourey put on a show up forward kicking three goals, but Werribee went into half time kicking six of the last nine goals before the long break to reduce the home sides margin to 13 points. After kicking the opening seven goals of the third term, everything went Werribee’s way as Ben Warren took over the goal kicking honours, finishing the game with nine.
While Frankston got back within 17 points in the final term, Werribee flexed their muscles to record their fifth win of the season. Warren was joined on the multiple goal kicking list by Ben Brown with 3, Scott Clouston with two 60 metre bombs as well as Ben Speight with 2. For Frankston, Lourey finished with 5, with Tom Purcell and Sam Lloyd kicking 2 each. Apart from Warren with his goal kicking haul and 12 marks, Scott Sherlock (20 d) and Sam Wormald (21) were best for the Tigers down back, while for Frankston, Shane Hockey (31 d), Lourey, Luke Potts (29) and Purcell (17) were among their best.
ESSENDON d SANDRINGHAM: Essendon has broken their four game losing streak to record a convincing 62 point win over Sandringham. The Bombers kicked the first four goals of the game to help set up their win, with a spread of 12 goal kickers across the afternoon. 23 points separated the two sides at half time, and the visitors got back within seven points 12 minutes into the third term. But Essendon kicked four unanswered goals midway through the quarter to answered the challenge and held a 34 point three quarter time lead.
The final term was all the Bombers as they kicked five goals to one to run out 10 goal winners.
