We look back at the Saturday winners in the Peter Jackson VFL - Collingwood, Box Hill Hawks, Port Melbourne and Williamstown:
PORT MELBOURNE d COBURG: Port Melbourne has continued their home ground dominance with a convincing 55-point win over Coburg at North Port Oval. The Borough led from start to finish in a four quarter performance which restricted their opponents to no more than two goals per term. The home side dominated in the middle with Chris Cain continuing his month long purple patch of form with 34 disposals, whilst captain John Baird showed he is only 175 VFL games young with 36 disposals and was amongst the best. The back six let the way for Port with Toby Thoolen, Daniel Noonan and Sam Pleming amongst their best. Coburg was unable to find regular targets inside their forward 50, with Liam McBean and Nick Maric their only options kicking three each.
COLLINGWOOD d ESSENDON: Collingwood has claimed an epic victory against Essendon in what was a tight contest all afternoon for the Bluestar Cup. Despite the Bombers getting off to a strong start with the first three goals of the game – two to Joe Daniher - Collingwood fought back to hit the front early in the second term due the great work out of the middle by Kyle Martin (27 disposals and six goals) who eventually won the best on ground award. Joining Martin amongst the best were Ben Hudson (29 hitouts), Josh Thomas (26 disposals) and Ben Moloney (two goals). For Essendon Joe Daniher (4 first half goals) and Cory Dell’Olio both kicked five goals, whilst amongst their best were Soctt Gumbleton (21 disposals/11 marks?), Kyle Hardingham and Ben Duscher.
WILLIAMSTOWN d BENDIGO: Williamstown flexed their muscle against Bendigo, claiming their highest score against the bottom of the ladder Gold with a 176-point win. The Seagulls stated their intentions early, kicking the first seven goals of the game on their way to 30 majors for the afternoon and 14 separate goal kickers. For the Seagulls young guns Anthony Anastasio (4 goals), Charlie Nastasi (4) and 23rd player Iaccarino (2) all provided handy forward options, whilst Jarrad Grant also chimed in with four goals and Patrick Veszpremi kicked three in a best on ground performance. Bendigo could not manage any multiple goal kickers, with their best named as Munari, Beck and Aarts.
BOX HILL HAWKS d NORTH BALLARAT: The Box Hill Hawks have won their fourth game on the trot with a 23 point win against North Ballarat. The Hawks were the only team to successfully kick a goal against the breeze, and it ended up the difference with their five majors against the breeze to the home sides nil. An eight goal to nil third term saw the Hawks out to a 51 point lead, but the Roosters fought back in the final term with nine goals to three, rounding out the game with the last four goals to make the scoreline respectable. Derick Wanganeen kicked three goals, along with Shane Savage kicking two in a best on ground performance.
