A 12-goal final term has fired North Ballarat to its first victory of 2013, an 85-point triumph over Bendigo Gold on Friday night.
The Roosters converted a 20-point lead at three quarter time into a 21.15 (141) to 7.14 (56) win, shrugging off a dogged Bendigo outfit in emphatic fashion, writes David O'Neill
North Melbourne-listed forward Aaron Black bagged five goals, while Jason Linke slotted four to be one of the Roosters’ best.
North Ballarat captain Michael Searl said it was a relief to finally have a win on the board.
“We feel like we’ve been getting better each week so to get the four points is great reward for a lot of hard work,” he said.
“Ben Jacobs (41 disposals and a goal) dominated the game and showed how dangerous he can be with that penetrating left foot of his.
“It was also good to see Myles Sewell and Bill Driscoll play their best games for the year.”
Searl said it was important to secure the upper hand in the budding rivalry between the two teams.
“Ballarat and Bendigo are obviously traditional rivals so it’s great to have that in the competition again and good to win the first one.”
Bendigo captain Steven Stroobants was his side’s only multiple goalkicker with two, while Tom Hams and young defender Matthew Farrelly were both significant contributors.
The Roosters host Essendon this Saturday at Eureka Stadium while Bendigo are back under lights at Queen Elizabeth Oval on Friday night against Collingwood.
