Brendan Bolton, a well known figure in Tasmanian Football, has been named new Senior coach of the the Box Hill Hawks for the next two seasons.Bolton, who took over as senior coach of the now disbanded Tassie Devils in the VFL in 2006, coached North Hobart to a Southern Football League Premiership in 2003. In 2008, Bolton was senior coach at Clarence Football Club and took the side to a preliminary final. He was also the 2003 William Leitch Medallist (Best player in Tasmania).
He is a young coach, who at 29, sees himself as still developing and keen to coach at a higher level.
Box Hill General Manager Andrew Pirchan said that Brendan blew the field away with his interview, presentation and desire to be the next Box Hill coach.
Bolton said he was looking forward to the challenge and is excited at the prospect of coaching in Victoria's top league.
“I am looking forward to implementing my own strategies at Box Hill and learning from the coaching panel at Hawthorn as I continue to develop," Bolton said.
"I am a life-long learner and am happy to be working with Hawthorn senior coach Alastair Clarkson and continuing to challenge the way things should be done.
"The Box Hill Hawks have a strong local following and their performances towards the end of last season where they won around six of their last 10 games showed that they can again be a successful club."
Bolton arrives next Monday, November 17 for the first session of pre-season training. The appointment also strengthens Hawthorn's links to football in Tasmania.
The Box Hill Hawks are looking forward to a big 2009 season with the two million dollar re-development of facilities at Box Hill City Oval.
New social rooms and corporate facilities as well as improvements to general public areas shows the commitment the Whitehorse Council, the State Government, AFL Victoria and the Hawthorn Football Club have to the growth and success of the Box Hill Hawks.
