North Ballarat coach Gerard Fitzgerald will once again lead Victoria into battle against old rivals South Australia.
Fitzgerald has been appointed coach of the VFL side that will travel to face the SANFL on May 31.
Fitzgerald takes the reigns for the first time since 2004, replacing last year's coach Mark Williams at the helm. Last year, Williams guided the VFL to a 119-point mauling of the WAFL at TEAC Oval.
Fitzgerald has a 100 per cent strike rate at state level. In 2002, he coached the VFL to a 56-point win over the SANFL at Adelaide Oval and two years later, he led Victoria to a stunning 11-point win over the WAFL at Leederville Oval.
Fitzgerald's club coaching record is also strong. Last year, his Roosters played off in a preliminary final after ejecting three-time premier Sandringham from the finals race.
