We take a look at the Saturday winners in the Peter Jackson VFL for Rd 10, with Northern Blues and Werribee Tigers winning.
NORTHERN BLUES d FRANKSTON: The Northern Blues have returned to the winners list with a 56-point win over Frankston. While a number of high profile Carlton listed players entered the Blues lineup today like Chris Yarran (pictured) and Robbie Warnock, it was a new Blues recruit playing his first game that impressed in the form of 2012 TAC Cup Morrish Medallist, former Gippsland Power on baller Nick Graham. Having recovered from an injury suffered in the preseason, Graham amassed 23 disposals in his first senior VFL game for the season, and combined well in the middle with Kane Lambert (29 d) to help Northern to victory. Lambert kicked two first quarter goals to get the home side off to the best possible start, leading by 28 points at quarter time. Young defender Riley Heddles got the job in defence on Yarran, and did a good stopping role.
Four second term goals by Khan Haretuku helped Frankston get back within 10 points in the second quarter, but it was the closest the visitors would get, as Northern increased their lead in the second half to run away with the game. Luke Mitchell kicked four goals up forward for the Blues, one of 12 goals scorers for his side, with Hampson, Wilson, Lambert and Graham all kicking two each. Lambert was again a standout, along with Bradyn Taglieri, Graham, Dylan Buckley (21 (disposals) and Nick Duigan. For Frankston Haretuku finished with six goals, with Sam Lloyd their only other multiple goal kickers with two. David Gallagher (18 disposals) was their best around the ground, along with Russ Gabriel (19 + 25 hitouts) - against the duo of Hampson and Warnock - Haretuku, Leigh Kitchin (27)and Corey Buchan (20).
WERRIBEE TIGERS d BENDIGO: A 14 goal to one second half has helped Werribee to a big win against Bendigo. Werribee recorded their fourth win in a row, but inaccuracy in the first half allowed Bendigo to make the most of their opportunities to be with 13 points of the Tigers at half time. Alexander Pollock was the key to the home sides’ scoreboard pressure in the first half, kicking three goals as Bendigo finished with the final two goals of the first and second terms. In the second half Werribee kicked into gear and straightened their goal kicking as the likes of Ben Warren and Ben McKinley (four goals each) started finding their range and helped their side to a 92-point win. Jarred Moore continued his great form this season to be the best for the Tigers, along with Jordan Gysberts, Scott Sherlock and the returning Daniel Currie. For Bendigo Pollock finished with three goals, with Patrick Flynn, Steve Stroobants, Alik Magin and Ricky Thomson their best.
