We recap the final game in round 6 of the Peter Jackson VFL, with the Sunday game winner being Williamstown.
WILLIAMSTOWN d FRANKSTON: Williamstown and Frankston have played out another close encounter, but in the end the visitors held off a fast finishing Dolphins side to take the points. After Frankston kicked the first six goals of the final term, the last being Ziggie Alwan’s fourth of the game, the home side got within two points of Williamstown. But the Seagulls answered, with Pat Veszpremi breaking a seven unanswered goal run from the Dolphins, and with three more goals to the Seagulls it gave them victory by 30 points.
Williamstown got out to a 43-point lead late in the third term as Kirby McConnon kicked his fourth goal in just his second game, but a late goal to Frankston got them within striking distance going into the final term with 37 points the difference. It was scenes reminiscent of their 2012 encounter when Frankston held a large six goal lead, only for Williamstown to race home and steal the draw, but it was not to play out the same way in 2013, as Williamstown secured their third win of the season, but more importantly their first away win of 2013.
For the winners, McConnon finished with four goals, Lachie Hunter three, plus two each to Simon Deery and Anthony Anastasio. Ed Carr was amongst the best for Williamstown, along with Fletcher Roberts, Talia, Hunter and McConnon. For Frankston Alwan kicked four goals, whilst Michael Lourey and Luke Potts both kicked three. Their best were Scott Simpson, Lachlan Delahunty and Leigh Kitchin.
