Sandringham will venture out to the home of the Werribee Tigers in this Saturday’s ABC TV game at Avalon Airport Oval. Nick Duxson previews the game.
The Zebras are without a win three games into 2013, with Werribee carrying a two-and-two record coming into this weekend.
Conditions
It should be a great day for footy out at Chirnside Park, with an expected temperature of 24 degrees and blue skies. The ground has already seen quite a few high-scoring games this season, and Saturday’s conditions should see a repeat of this trend.
Form Guide
Sandringham – LLD – The Zebras held their own last weekend in a 108-point draw with top four contender Port Melbourne, have lost to reigning premiers Geelong and were beaten by strugglers Coburg in the season opener.
Werribee – WLWL – The Tigers were taught a football lesson by a ruthless Williamstown outfit last weekend, with a close win over Collingwood and near loss to the in-form Northern Blues.
Last Meeting
Round 12, 2012 – Avalon Airport Oval – Werribee 20.16.136 def Sandringham 8.9.57
It was fairly competitive up until three quarter time, until Werribee booted eight goals to none and blew the Zebras out of the water. Ben Warren kicked four goals as the Tigers’ were well-served by their affiliate players. Saints Farren Ray and Tom Ledger were amongst the Zebras best.
The Key Match Ups
Tom Hickey will have his work cut out going up against Tigers in-form ruckman Daniel Currie, who recorded another 31 hit outs in defeat last week.
Liston Trophy winner Ben Ross has had a quiet couple of weeks in the middle of the ground, and will do battle with the Zebra’s Tom Ledger, who has been racking up the disposals the past two weeks.
Sandringham might be caught short down back, with Scott Clouston, Ben Warren and Ben Brown providing strong targets up forward for the home side.
Injury List/Team Selections
Ben Speight and Kris Pendlebury could return for Werribee this weekend, while Majak Daw looks set to line up for the Kangaroos again despite suffering concussion last weekend.
Farren Ray, Tom Simpkin and Terry Milera should return to the Zebras line-up after being omitted by the Saints for their Anzac Day clash.
Prediction – Tigers by 8 goals.
