Box Hill Hawks kept their finals and double chance hopes alive on Sunday with a 24 point win over Frankston. Box Hill led from start to finish, but held off a final term challenge by the home side to claim their seventh win of the season.
A five goal to one behind first term set up the victory for Box Hill, using the aid of the breeze in the first term to set up a 34 point lead. The Hawks enjoyed the return of big men Max Bailey and Adam Pattison to their lineup, and couple with Luke Lowden the visitors had a distinct advantage in the ruck and down forward.
Frankston were able to reduce the margin to 17 points at half time, but let themselves down with their second goalless quarter in the third term, as Box Hill took a handy 42 point lead into the final quarter.
Frankston once again left their run too late, enjoying their best quarter of the match with six goals to two, but falling short by 24 points.
Bailey led the goal kicking with three for the Hawks, and was well supported by Amos Frank and Will Johnson with two each. The Hawks enjoyed seeing co-captain Beau Muston return for just his second game of the season, along with Danny Hughes from injury.
For Frankston, they managed nine separate goal kickers, with none of the Dolphins players able to kick multiples for the afternoon.
Box Hill this week head to Victoria Park to take on Collingwood in the ‘early game’ at 10:30am, whilst Frankston have the bye.
