The Box Hill Hawks take on Collingwood in this Saturday’s Peter Jackson VFL Match of the Round on ABC TV. The game promises to be a tight contest with Box Hill sitting in eighth spot, just percentage above Collingwood on the ladder – both teams with just the one win for the season.
Whilst there is under a 1% point separating them on the ladder, there is nothing separating the teams in their head to head battles as well, locked on three wins apiece.
The Box Hill Hawks enter Round 5 after pushing reigning premiers Port Melbourne last weekend. Coach Damian Carroll believes they have become a smarter side as a result of their loss.
“We hope that our team learned a lot out of the weekend against a good opposition. Port work so well together as a team and we need to be at the same standard.
The Club will be leading into Saturday’s game with the same vigour as previous weeks. However, this time even more eager to snatch the four points at the end of the day.
“We need to approach every match with great intensity and effort and this week is no exception. Collingwood had a good win last weekend and they certainly have some quality through the side,” Damian Carroll said.
Hawks backman Stephen Gilham will play his second game for Box Hill this week, and the match will also see the return of Hawks utility Paul Puopolo.
Collingwood enter Saturday’s match after recording their first win for the season last weekend against the Northern Blues. Head Coach Tarkyn Lockyer was pleased with his team’s performance on the weekend.
“I was delighted that the boys found a way to win the game. We were in a similar position last week against North Ballarat and fell away, so to run the game out well was great.
Collingwood’s VFL list provided the team with some impressive efforts. Matt Boland and Ricky Ferraro stood out as leading performers.
“Matt came in for his first game and gave us a great target to kick to. Kicking 6 goals was a pleasing result.
“Ricky played his second game and has been solid for us. His attack on the ball has been good and also finished with 2 goals on the weekend.
Collingwood enter this weekend’s game prepared for a tough battle and hopeful of a positive result. Alan Didak will be playing his second game coming back from injury, whilst the VFL side may just see backman Nathan Brown run around for them for the third consecutive week.
“We know that Box Hill are always very competitive and have a strong contribution from AFL listed players. It should be a good game as we had a close encounter last year. If the boys can play with the same intensity as last week, we will give ourselves every chance of winning,” Tarkyn Lockyer said.
