Last weekend saw the AFL debuts of four Peter Jackson VFL players from Season 2011. James Magner (Sandringham Zebras), Tory Dickson (Casey Scorpions) Jarrod Boumann (Box Hill Hawks) and Orren Stephenson (North Ballarat) all made their first official appearances for their respective AFL Clubs in round one.
James Magner kick started his debut with a bang, booting two goals with his first two kicks for Melbourne. Magner was fortunate enough to receive free kicks leading into both goals. However, this should not take away from his performance, amassing a team high 23 disposals.
Magner, at 24 years of age, show his desire to perform on debut on Saturday when he collected 10 contested possessions and laid 4 tackles.
Tory Dickson lined up for the Western Bulldogs, totalling 12 disposals. Dickson is a handy goal kicker that should provide the Dogs with a strong target up forward in future weeks.
Jarrod Boumann (Hawthorn) and Orren Stephenson (Geelong) both put forward solid performances against top opponents. Boumann collected few stat’s but made his presence felt in the backline against Collingwood before being subbed off.
Orren Stephenson had a big task to fulfil on Saturday, rucking against Aaron Sandilands. Orren held his own in the ruck, delivering 10 hit-outs in the limited minutes that he played.
Round 2 will bring upon another challenge for all of these players and hopefully the debut of more 2011 Peter Jackson VFL players.
