BEAU Dowler signed at Sandringham last Friday and starts pre-season training with St Kilda today, desperate to reignite an AFL career that began with his selection as the number six selection in the 2005 national draft.
The 23-year-old had five years with the Hawks, getting in 16 games.
Tall and athletic, the Under 18 All-Australian gave the impression there were greater things to come, but in the end he was unable to turn promise into performance.
The Hawks let him go after he finished last year in the Box Hill Hawks reserves. Dowler spent this year at his junior club, Noble Park, playing in a premiership.
He started the season as a Noble Park forward but finished it superbly in the backline.
His relationship with new St Kilda head of football Chris Pelchen when at Hawthorn helped Sandringham secure him. But it would be no surprise if the Saints themselves sign Dowler as a mature-age rookie.
