The AFL today released the names of the Tall Defenders who will attend the 2011 NAB AFL Draft Combines to be held at national and state level beginning October 4.
The national list includes nine players from Victoria, three from Western Australia and two from Tasmania.
A further 11 Tall Defenders will attend State Draft Combines in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth in October.
AFL National Talent Manager, Kevin Sheehan, said an exciting level of talent has been shown by the Tall Defenders Forwards invited to this year’s Draft Combines.
“Tall defenders are much sought after in the Draft to potentially be able to match up on a powerful AFL tall forward; they must have very good repeat speed, sure hands and be composed under pressure,” said Mr. Sheehan.
“The Draft Combine tests for repeat speed with its six by 30 metre test with three players pitted against each other while the “Matthew Lloyd Clean Hands Test’ evaluates sure ball handling and composure. Both tests produce vital information when assessing tall defenders.”
