Williamstown will aim to be the first team into the inaugural Foxtel Cup Grand Final when they clash with East Perth this Saturday night at Etihad Stadium.
After consolidating second spot on the Peter Jackson VFL ladder last Sunday with a 29 point win against the Northern Bullants, attention now turns to the Foxtel Cup Semi Final against the Royals.
Williamstown will be playing at home in the Foxtel Cup for the first time in the competition after road trips to Perth and Adelaide in the first two rounds. In a bonus to Seagulls supporters and football fans in general, admission to the game is free of charge which provides supporters a great chance to watch the Gulls and Royals in action.
Williamstown heads into the Semi Final clash having had two convincing wins against WAFL reigning premiers Swan Districts in round 1 and SANFL surprise packet West Adelaide in the Quarter Final. Meanwhile East Perth overcame triple VFL reigning premiers North Ballarat in round 1 of the Foxtel Cup, before claiming a gutsy victory against the Northern Territory Thunder in Darwin in their Quarter Final. The match promises to be another classic contest between two proud football clubs with a spot in the inaugural Foxtel Cup Grand Final the prize for the victor.
It will be business as usual for the home side as their preparations won’t differ from a normal VFL game. “We’ve been tracking East Perth for the last few weeks and will prepare our usual opposition analysis.” Williamstown Football Manager Chris Dixon explained.
“We’re expecting a tough contest from a side that will be desperate to win this competition.”
Dixon also stated it was a great chance for all Williamstown, Western Bulldogs and Victorian football fans in general to see the action first hand. “This will be only the second Foxtel Cup game in Melbourne and its fantastic the AFL has decided to make it free admission.
“It’s a chance for supporters to get close to the action at Etihad Stadium and we’d encourage as many people to come down this Saturday as we aim to do the VFL and Victorian football proud and hopefully progress to the Grand Final.”
The winner of this Semi Final will play either Claremont or Port Adelaide Magpies who clash in the other Semi Final on the 16th July.
Due to the jumper clash between the two teams, Williamstown will be wearing an alternative strip that has been approved by the Williamstown Football Club.
