The Williamstown Football Club has reported their initiative to play a VFL game at Torquay Football Club on Easter Sunday was an outstanding success. A crowd in excess of 4,000 attended the high quality game between Williamstown and Geelong. The Williamstown Football Club will now investigate the possibilities of making the game an annual event at Torquay on Easter Sunday.
Williamstown Football Club CEO Brendan Curry stated “all the feedback from everybody who attended Sunday and our partners - Torquay Football Club, Football Geelong, AFL Victoria, Torquay Police, Surf Coast Shire and the Geelong Football Club were all extremely positive about the game.
“The whole day was a great advertisement for VFL Football, the Surf Coast Shire and the Torquay Football Club and we believe that this day will only grow in the future. We now have to sit down with all concerned and receive feedback and plan to make this event even bigger and better in 2012.
“All parties are excited about how this planned annual game can continue to grow.
“It would be great for the Torquay Football Club to receive the necessary financial support to continue to improve their facilities re – change rooms and coaches boxes etc. The Bellarine Grand Final is played at Torquay and the ground has so much potential to become an elite sporting complex in the region”.
The final result saw Williamstown overcome a spirited Geelong side by 32 points.
