There are plenty of places you are able to listen to or see the VFL in 2011. As we count down to the start of the season, over the next few days we will look at some of the groups that will be bringing you all the VFL action in season 2011.
Today we start with the 3WBC radio team.
Season 2011 sees radio 3WBC 94.1 fm in their fourth year broadcasting VFL Football. This radio station is based in Box Hill and calls all Box Hill Hawks games, both home and away. The broadcast goes to air at 1pm each week for a 1-hour pre-match broadcast and then a full, live coverage of the game.
3WBC broadcast on 94.1 FM and also stream live on their website www.3wbc.org.au
The broadcast can also be heard via the Hawthorn website: www.hawthornfc.com.au
Hosted by Ben Brady, the VFL broadcast is an unbiased and thorough call of the games with a light-hearted emphasis. Ben calls the action with Peter Holden and Paul Hooper in special comments / stats. Prowling the boundary is Beth Ramshaw and Brendan “Rashy” Hooper. Hawthorn premiership defender, Steve Gilham joins the team in special comments when Hawthorn games don’t clash with the 3WBC VFL broadcast.
The broadcast is co-produced by Phil Edwards under the watchful eye of Station Manager, John Farmer.
In 2009, the team was awarded a national radio award for excellence in sport broadcasting by the CBAA (Community Broadcast Assoc of Australia) and last season they commentary team was asked to call the VFL Grand Final on commercial station, 3BA in Ballarat.
