It is OK to like, but better to pledge your Blood Oath!
Over 25,000 people have now ‘liked’ the Blood Oath Facebook page. Whilst this shows that the message is being received loud and clear about the campaign, the aim is to have people pledge their Blood Oath, which under half have done (10,000).
By pledging a Blood Oath, people are showing their commitment to their teammates, their club and the wider community to ensure that people understand that when on the road, “your mate’s life is in your hands”.
Stats for 2011 show we have already lost about three AFL footy teams worth of men on the roads, so now is the chance for football followers to put a stop to this trauma and encourage young people to drive responsibly by taking the Blood Oath.
Local metropolitan and country clubs have set the standard so far for their Blood Oath pledges, with the challenge now on Peter Jackson VFL clubs to spread the word, and show that their teams are right behind the campaign. Coldstream are leading the way on the Metro ladder, and Corio Community SC are leading the Country ladder. The best of the VFL clubs are Collingwood and Geelong (full ladder below).
It only takes a few moments of your time, and chances are you spend more than a few minutes each day on Facebook, so why not venture over to www.facebook.com/mybloodoath and take the Oath.
Apart from pledging your Blood Oath, you will go into the weekly prize draw for a chance to win $5,000 for your club, and AFL Grand Final tickets for yourself – just by pledging! At the end of July, one club in country Victoria and one club in the metropolitan area will each be rewarded with a $30,000 prize. Winning clubs will be those who receive the most pledges.
So do your bit to curb the road toll for young drivers, and pledge your Blood Oath. Visit www.facebook.com/mybloodoath select your team, select an oath to drive safely and post your oath to your own Facebook page. This will encourage your friends to also take an oath and commit to safer driving. The aim is for your club to have the most oaths of all entries.
