Williamstown star Patrick Rose remains hopeful of an AFL future after an electrifying performance against Werribee.
The Seagull livewire kicked five goals in extremely difficult conditions at Burbank Oval yesterday to claim ABC TV's Man of the Match award.
With the wind off the bay causing havoc, Rose turned to his local knowledge and slotted an amazing goal from the pocket in the first term. He popped the ball on the crest of the wind atop the goal square, knowingly watched the ball drift at right angles and sail through the big sticks to the amazement of Gulls fans.
Rose told ABC TV after the match that the conditions were among the worst he had played in.
"Probably the worst was against the Bullants when there was hail but it was difficult," Rose told ABC TV.
After several solid years in blue and gold, Rose was asked whether an AFL call-up remained his ambition.
"I'd love to but I'm 23 years old," Rose said.
"(Williamstown teammate) Liam Picken was picked-up (by the Bulldogs at 22 years of age) so you never give up."
