Here are some of the key things you need to know about AFL Wheelchair, and the Robert Rose Foundation Victorian Wheelchair Football League.
- All VWFL matches will be played at the Boroondara Sports Complex, using an indoor basketball court.
- Teams are made up of five players on-court (two forwards, a centre, two defenders), and substitutes.
- Games consist of 10 minute quarters, with no time on.
- There are designated zones (forward, centre and defence) which dictate where assigned players can play.
- Players wear coloured arm bands to identify their position on the court.
- There is no kicking in AFL Wheelchair. A handball is equivalent to a kick, and a single handed underarm throw is equivalent to a handball.
- A goal is worth 6 points, a behind worth 1 point. Only the designated forwards can score, from within the forward third.
- Many of the other rules of traditional AFL still apply.
