The 2021 Queenscliff Cup was sailed on Easter Saturday and Sunday with five races completed.
Saturday’s first race was held in a light northerly but very strong tide with Richard Lowe in Castille taking out line and handicap honours. Race 2 saw a slight increase in the breeze: Blaise Pascal skippered by Nick Woodley got a good start and won on handicap. Race 3, the long race, included the QLYC yachts Indulgence, Tiercel and Valentine, and started in a stronger north westerly swinging around to a westerly gusting at times to 20 knots. John Barry sailing Sundance tamed the tides and claimed Line Honours with Nick Woodley the handicap winner.
Sunday’s races were delayed by a lack of wind but eventually a steady south easterly prevailed and races 4 and 5 were sailed producing a tight finish to the series that saw Tom Hinton in Boomaroo the overall winner of the Cup.

As Race Officer, I would like to comment on the prowess of the competitors, sailing in some of the strongest tides of the year with great ability and seamanship. I would also like to thank QLYC for their assistance with buoys and tackle, Peter Rattray for the use of his vessel Rat Race as the Committee boat and Mckinley Dalton for ably laying the marks in MacDuck.
