Vice Commodore Michael Graf has recently had a conversation with a Senior Constable at the Victoria Water Police based in Williamstown and thought it important Members understand the advice the Water Police are currently giving.
1. You are not permitted to be aboard a recreational vessel under the current levels of restrictions.
2. The ONLY REASON you may be aboard your vessel is to carry out ESSENTIAL MAINTENANCE:
a) works that are considered necessary for the vessel to remain afloat and seaworthy; or
b) to inspect essential systems such as bilge pumps and batteries that are required to be operating for the vessel to remain afloat and in seaworthy condition.
3. Victoria Police or Parks Victoria are conducting inspections to ensure that persons aboard are in compliance with the above.
4. Victoria Police are receiving many phone calls from members of the public who are reporting activity on vessels to the police.
5. In line with community expectations, Members of QCYC should comply with the restrictions outlined and be prepared to be challenged by the Victoria Police or Parks Victoria as to their reasons for being aboard and risk being fined.
6. Persons who require an exemption for being aboard may call 1800 020 080, option 1, to see if an exemption can be granted and the conditions that apply.
More generally, members of QCYC should conduct themselves in line with community expectations with respect to COVID-19 restrictions and the Clubhouse and Wharf remain closed until further notice (see previous post dated 17th April 2020).
