Following the earlier decision to close the Clubhouse, initially until 20th April, Commodore Chris Laker has updated members in an email to be circulated later today.
The following is the content of Chris' email:
"This is a very difficult time for everyone as COVID-19 has had a major impact on us all. Everyday brings new changes and challenges. Physical distancing is the only way to keep our community safe in these unprecedented times and must be taken seriously.
The clubhouse has been closed for over three weeks and, as a a result of the direction by the Victorian Governement that all facilities must be closed, it continues to be very important that it is not used in any way. This closure will continue until the Federal and State Governments notify us of a change to the situation.
We have been directed by Parks Victoria that our wharf is now also out of bounds.
Boats may only be used to return to their home port as long as they have permission from Vicpol. Anyone moving a recreation vessel must have permission to do so, although people with vessels on moorings may use a dinghy to access their vessels for the purpose of checking the safety of their vessel.
On April 2nd the Chief Health Officer for Victoria clarified that boating was not classified as exercise and the Police have been enforcing this with on the spot fines. For many of us who gain physical as well as mental joy from regularly spending time on our boats this is a difficult time but we need to adhere to the Victorian and Federal Government guidelines.
I hope everyone had a great Easter. The Committee did have plans for Easter at QCYC with a spit roast, Easter egg hunt and lots of Members, guests and visitors around the clubhouse. We will save our plans for next year."
