Many congratulations from all at QCYC to Past Commodore Ken McAllister for being awarded the OAM.
Having been a CFA volunteer for over 65 years Ken McAllister was among the local recipients of Australia Day Honours last Sunday.
Ken received the Medal of the Order of Australia for service to the community through emergency response organisations. He has been involved with the Wallington CFA since the very early days of its existence and has been everything from a junior firefighter to captain of the brigade. He joined in 1954, was 2nd Lieutenant from 1961-1965 and Captain in 1965-1976 and again from 1982-1986.
Ken was also Commodore of QCYC from 2000-2002.
Chris Laker comments: "Ken told me that the members at Wallington originally raised all the money to fund their equipment and that the place where the fire station stands today was originally part of his farm. Ken couldn't stay up and celebrate on Saturday night because the next day he had to attend a hill climb in his vintage sports car, not bad for an 80+ year old youngster".
Congratulations Ken from everyone at QCYC.
