The 2019 HMAS Goorangai Memorial Trophy Race was won by Nick Woodley in Blaise Pascal.
The race started on Saturday 2nd November from RBYC Tower with grey skies and a 9 knot NNE breeze. And then the rain came down!
However the wind held northerly and a gust of nearly 20 knots was reported as the leader and eventual Line Honours yacht, Chris Laker’s Imagine, approached the West Channel Pile. DreamCatcher skippered by Ian Staley and Boots, Rob Murraylee, followed Blaise Pascal around the WCP. The tide was benign for the Fleet’s leaders but caught Boomaroo, Tom Hinton, with the start of the flood, but the wind held from the North.
Nick Woodley at the helm of Blaise Pascal sailed a superb race, under kite all the way, finishing 2nd over the line and taking the Trophy on Handicap.
Many thanks to co-starters Peter Austen, Murray Cowdell and RBYC for their hospitality.
