It is with sadness we report the death of QCYC member Thorold (Thorry) Gunnersen. Thorry joined QCYC in 1993 and remained a member with Tilting at Windmills on the QCYC Boat Register.
John Gleeson writes:
Thorry was an academic who later joined the family timber business. He remained a long-time friend of Professor Peter Joubert, yacht designer, and always wanted to own a Joubert designed yacht. When 'Gumblossom' became available in 1967 he bought her, the first fibreglass Currawong design built for Peter Joubert himself. Thorry raced Gumblossum regularly, including many Hobarts as well as to New Zealand and further afield.
In 1994 Thorry had Peter Joubert design a another yacht, Tilting at Windmills, which he campaigned extensively in Australia, Europe and New Zealand.
Thorry will be widely missed. The Flag Officers, Committee and Members of Queensclif Cruising Yacht Club express their heart felt condolences to Thorry's children, grandchildren and family.
