Tom Hinton's S and S 34 'Boomaroo' took handicap honours in the 2016 HMAS Goorangai Memorial Trophy Race held on Saturday 12th November. Line honours were taken by Uluawtu.
Report from Club Captain, Mike Phelan:
The bunting on the RBYC flagpole was in no danger of fraying at the edges as Brighton's RO John Spencer sent the fleet of 7 yachts on their way to Queenscliff in the 2016 HMAS Goorangai Memorial Trophy Race in a very light NNE breeze.
However things were about to change as eventual line honours yacht Uluwatu found out just before the West Channel Pile, when the change hit, with a gust of 35+ knots from the WSW. The wind strength abated and the fleet had a tide assisted tack down the West Channel in smooth water.
Boomaroo, sailed by Tom and Alison Hinton, although last across the finish line won by 6 seconds elapsed time from Chris Laker's Imagine sailed by Alan Farnham. Third place went to Happy Hour skippered by Brendon Lee ably assisted by tactician Rex Prosser.
