In conjunction with Yachting Victoria, QCYC ran a successful discover sailing day for people interested in trying keelboat sailing on Sunday 10th January 2016.
This was a first for QCYC and the opportunity for anybody to come to the Club and go for a sail on a keelboat was advertised on the Yachting Australia website as well as by items in the local press and shop windows.
We attracted 14 people who were welcomed by Commodore John Mooney over morning tea and then allocated to boats. Brendon Lee on Happy Hour took out a family of four. Brendan Kruger and his crew on Baby Doll also took four, Colin Gibbs and crew took a family of three on Tiercel and organiser Jonathan Crockett on Ventura took out two with Crewing help from Mike Ackerman.
The weather was kind although a little more wind would have been useful. We visited the seal colony on the Caisson and returned for sausages, drinks and salad.
Participants all commented on the uniqueness of our Club and thanked us for the opportunity to sail.
Thanks to all those who contributed. We will be looking for more volunteers and more participants in January 2017.
