Several members raised concerns at the AGM about the safety of small fishing boats anchoring in or close to the fairway from the Queenscliff Cut to the QCYC berthing area. During a recent and relatively busy weekend at the Club it was felt that this had posed a significant safety risk, both to the fishing boats and to vessels manoeuvring towards the wharf.
The Flag Officers have raised these concerns with representatives from Parks Victoria (PV).
PV are aware of the problem and will do their best to respond to any issues invoving boating non-compliance. During their patrols, and within the constraints of limited resources, PV will advise boaters/anglers not to anchor in the turning basin or fairway. However, they may anchor in the mooring area.
The advice to QCYC members encountering this issue is firstly to avoid confrontation or antagonism which may make an unsafe situation worse. Secondly, obtain details of any boat(s), ideally with a photograph, and send them to secretary@qcyc.org.au. Information will then be forwarded to Parks Victoria.
