The 53rd Opening Day of Queenscliff Cruising Yacht Club was held on Sunday 15th November 2015.
Our Patron, Captain Stephen Bowater, RAN, Commanding Officer HMAS Cerberus, accompanied by Juliene Bowater-Woodrow, officially opened the new season in glorious sunshine with a gentle cooling breeze.
There was a significant fleet at the wharf and, following a minute's silence for the victims of recent events in Paris, the Reverend Peter Martin, Vicar of St James' Church (Point Lonsdale) and St George's Church (Queenscliff) conducted the service and Blessing of the Fleet. Commodore John Mooney welcomed honoured guests and members, and Vice Commodore Richard Lowe presented a cheque for $4,000 to Carol Shiels, Cottage by the Sea. The congregation of 100-120 then moved to the wharf for the Casting of the Cross and final blessing.
A one gun salute was performed by Les Irving-Dusting, and Tilley Lee presented bouquets to Juliene Bowater-Woodrow and Helen Martin.
