How often have we driven across the causeway taking in the magnificent view, watching the birds on Cygnet Bridge as they take to flight as late as possible as your car approaches. Your eyes scan the scenery, the graceful swans, and the abundance other bird life. Each time you drive this path your heart lifts, wondering who else will be at Paradise.
Most of us have driven across the causeway many times, countless in fact. It is therefore of little surprise that we have missed this little insignificant looking container along the way. It is located near the Cygnet Bridge and it contains vital safety equipment.
Members may remember that in April 2007 three SAS soldiers tragically drowned after their car ran off the Defence causeway and into the water. The QCYC committee realising that such a tragedy could also happen with our own causeway installed a box which contains a windscreen breaking hammer, a special glass cutter and diving goggles.
Next time you drive across into Paradise have a look. It could save a life one day. Lets hope we never have to open our box to use it !!!!!!!!!!!!!
