Willetton Basketball Association (Inc) (WBA) is a Centre of Excellence for basketball and a facilitator for other sporting and recreational activities operating in a not-for-profit environment. As an Affiliated Association of Basketball Western Australia (BWA), WBA’s purpose is to engage the community through basketball and proficiently manage the Willetton Stadium for the benefit of the whole community. Governed by a highly dedicated Board of Directors and enthusiastic and passionate CEO and management team, WBA is seeking to appoint up to four (4) Member Protection Information Officers (MPIOs).

With our key values being Welcoming, Safe and Inclusive, WBA is committed to the health, safety and wellbeing of all members and participants. The appointment of up to four (4) MPIOs will allow WBA to continue to uphold its core values and maintain a safe, fair and inclusive environment for everyone associated with our Association. It sets out our commitment to ensure that every person interacting with Association is consistently and unequivocally treated with respect and dignity and protected from discrimination, harassment and abuse. It also ensures that everyone interacting with our Association is aware of their legal and ethical rights and responsibilities, as well as the standards of behaviour expected of them.

WBA has adopted BWA’s Member Protection Policy Member Protection Policy which sets out the procedures that will be followed when complaints are received. WBA is seeking nominations from individuals who will be a person trained to be the first point of contact for a person reporting a complaint under, or a breach of, this Policy. The MPIO provides impartial and confidential support to the person making the complaint, but will not be an official of WBA so as to avoid potential conflicts of interest.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Ensure the safety and welfare for WBA members
• Assist in grievance and complaints resolution
• Act as an impartial body, offering a sounding board to bounce ideas off
• Refer complaints and grievances to other bodies in conjunction with the Member Protection Policy
• Awareness of Codes of Conduct & Child Protection
• Liaise with members of WBA, Board and Management
• Work with WBA to ensure that the members who require a WWCC have provided their current number, expiry date and verification result.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Possess good interpersonal and communication skills (great listener)
• Possess a good understanding of the BWA Member Protection Policy
• Good organisational skills
• Undertake training for the role as provided by “Play by the Rules” (online training) MPIO online course MPIO Online Course

Previous MPIO (or equivalent) experience would be viewed favourably but is not essential.

Each position is voluntary, and whilst there is no remuneration for our MPIOs, reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.
