Media Release - Willetton Tigers Coach Appointments

NENER AND PARKER TO LEAD TIGERS TEAMS INTO NBL1 ERA

The Willetton Tigers are excited to announce the appointment of former SBL title winning captain Adam Nener to the role of Head Coach of the Tigers Men’s NBL1 team for the next two seasons.

Nener, who has previous SBL Head Coach experience at Cockburn, beat a strong field of candidates for the role after impressing the club’s selection panel with his vision for the team and the program into the future, as the Willetton Tigers look to enter the newly announced NBL1 West competition in 2021.

Willetton Talent & Coaching Manager Luke Sunderland said “After a thorough process we are thrilled to announce Adam Nener as our Men’s NBL1 West Head Coach. After coaching across both the senior ranks as an Assistant and Head Coach as well as his recent involvement with our U16 boys, the timing is perfect for Adam to lead our program into an exciting new era for both the club and the league”

Coach Adam Nener made the following comments upon his appointment “I’d like to thank the interview panel and the Willetton board members for accepting me as the new head coach for the men’s program. It’s a role that I am really looking forward to, we have a great group of core players and along with the younger generation the future is an exciting one at that. As a club we have retained Wayne Biddle as lead assistant coach, Wayne has done a great job with the D League boys who won the D League Championship on the weekend just gone, with a roster complete with Willetton junior program graduates. I’m excited to work alongside Wayne and the club to see how far the Willetton Tigers can go in 2021 and beyond.”

Both Tigers team head coaches are now in place for the NBL1 West’s inaugural season with Simon Parker also agreeing to a 2-year extension to continue leading the Willetton Tigers women’s program in 2021 & 2022.

“Thank you to the club for re-appointing me as the Head Coach of the Women’s program for 2021 & 2022. I’m excited to be involved with the new branding of the league to NBL1 West. I get to coach a great core of senior players who are returning and will be working hard to play off for another championship” said Coach Simon Parker.

“The opportunity also presents to work with the up and coming Willetton juniors who will be trying out for our WNBL1/D-League roster with the addition of some of the future players of the club, we will be making some announcements in the coming weeks, so watch this space.”

Willetton Talent & Coaching Manager Luke Sunderland had the following to say of Parker’s reappointment to the role: “Simon has been an outstanding leader of our women’s program throughout his tenure and even more so during this interrupted season. His willingness to put the club first, develop his players and assistant coaches whilst also coaching within our junior program made his re-appointment one of the easier decisions for the club to make in the off season. Our recent success at the junior level along with Simon’s vision for the program will help create one of the best home-grown programs in not only the NBL1 West but country wide”.

The club looks forward to Willetton Stadium being full of Tigers fans for next season’s games and supporting both our teams as we look to climb the ladder and claim NBL1 championships for our teams.
