Tigers honour Scotty with win

SBL superstar Damien Scott celebrated his 250 SBL game milestone on the weekend with a dominant high-scoring performance that he is both known and loved for.

Scotty was given the opportunity to be honoured by his club in front of a home crowd on Sunday, as he played in his first game at Willetton stadium since reaching his 250th SBL game.

The vice-captain racked up an impressive game high 30 points, eight assists and six rebounds on the day against Mandurah Magic.

These stats were crucial to the Tigers taking home a big win over Magic, finishing with a 19-point victory (103-84).

MSBL coach Steve Black said it was great to see Scotty celebrate his milestone with a fantastic performance.

“Scotty played some great basketball and was one of the driving forces in the second half,” Black said.

“Milestones are an opportunity for the club and the players to reflect on significant contributions to our game by people who have earned that right to be recognized.”

US import Mo Barrow was another standout against Magic, finishing with 27 points and eight rebounds.

Black said he was pleased to see strong leadership from senior players as well as exciting young talent come through for the win.

“It was a very important win for us and a pleasing second half for me, particularly to see our leaders in Mo and Scotty step up, but also young guns like Connor and Big John make significant contributions,” Black said.

Earlier in the week, the Tigers went down to the Eastern Suns by two points (86-88).

However, Black said he was pleased with the effort his team brought on the night and the direction they are heading.

“I thought we battled well against the Suns and despite missing a couple of players, gave a great effort," Black said.

“From a game style perspective and an intensity perspective, our last 3 games leave me feeling good about the trajectory the team is on and hopefully we can sharpen up some things at both ends of the court to capitalize on some great efforts.”

The Tigers will be chasing a win this Saturday against the Rockingham Flames at Willetton Basketball Stadium. WSBL tip-off is 5pm followed by the MSBL at 7pm.
