Parker chats big weekend wins

The Willetton Tigers WSBL have locked in their first wins for the season with an exciting double-header over the weekend that saw them finish two for two.

The Tigers took on the Eastern Suns at home before making the trip to Bunbury on Saturday to take on the Slammers.

Despite losing the first two rounds of the season, Parker has been impressed with this team’s performances so far and said the weekend’s success was validation of their hard work.

“It was a fantastic outcome on the weekend to win both games, we had been working very hard but didn't get over the line at the two games prior,” Parker said.

“I was confident if reproduced the standard we set in the Lakeside game we'd be in with a big chance and be rewarded for our effort, which we did.”

A key component to the Tigers’ wins were the outstanding performances of Emma Gandini.

Gandini finished with 15 points, 11 rebounds and three assists on Friday, and 18 points, seven rebounds and five assists on Saturday.

She was subsequently named as the WSBL Player of the Round for Round Three by the SBL.

“Emma has been outstanding from week one, being one of the senior players it's her time to show what she can do, the key is being consistent and reproducing similar numbers each week,” Parker said.

“She's a naturally fit person but is always working to get better, she's extremely quick and uses that on the court, her on ball defence would be one of the best in the league and she is playing to her strengths, things are working for her.”

As the Tigers prepare for another double-header this weekend, Parker is confident the girls are on the right track and can back-up their wins from last round.

“We have played good basketball and are improving every week, the brand of basketball we play suits the playing group, we just need to make it better,” Parker said.

Head down to Willetton Basketball Stadium on Friday to see the Tigers take on the East Perth Eagles. WSBL tip off at 6:30pm followed by MSBL at 8:30pm.
