When you are confident sailing in open waters and ready for the next sailing challenge, then the Minnow Sailing Association (MSA) development squad is for you! The squad gets coaching and competes in all the events on the development squad calendar.
The Victorian Minnow Association Development Squad is a team available to all intermediate and advanced Minnow sailors in Victoria. It provides coaching sessions throughout the sailing season, regatta support, and consistent coaching to develop each sailor’s racing skills.
It is a pathway program intended for sailors who are progressing from club level sailing to regattas at other sailing clubs. Sailors should be at an intermediate-advanced level of sailing (they should be capable and confident sailing an ‘open’ course at regattas).
Sailors who signup and participate in this program receive:
- Access to coaching sessions outside of major regattas and beyond club level sailing
- Briefings before racing at major regattas that the minnow association provides coaching for (refer to calendar)
- On-water support during racing as well as advice between multiple races
- Debriefing after each day of racing
- General regatta support (protest assistance, boat set up and rule explanations)
- Handouts, notes and a personalised letter at times throughout the sailing season
There are 8 single days and one weekend of coaching. The cost is $250 for the first child and $200 for the 2nd child from the same family. Regatta entry fees are not included in the squad fee. There is also a casual daily coaching fee of $35/day available if you are unable to commit to the whole program.
If you are unsure what to do, just come down to Albert Park this weekend (Saturday 20/6 @ 9am) and discuss with your friendly committee. Please email ewan@phaedrus.com.au if you intend to do this so we can ensure there are enough coaches.
