The regatta saw a show of strength from the Minnow class with 17 Minnows entered, more than any other junior class. Sorrento, Blairgowrie, McCrae, Saftety Beach, Parkdale and Sugarloaf were all represented and it was terrific to see two local Sorrento Minnow sailors, Stephanie Gray and Lucus Ambrens take part.
After a briefing from sailing coach Paul Rogers, the Minnow sailors headed out in ~10 knots to start their races. Race one saw a close tussle for the lead with Jarvis prevailing over Hamish second and Jarod third. Race two followed a similair pattern this time with Phillipa third, but towards the end the wind dropped off and the tide started to become a bigger factor.
Race three had very light winds and even getting to the start line was an achievement due to the strong tide. Ed and Jarvis found the boat speed needed to make it to the upwind marks and they eventually finished in that order with Jarod in third. After being on the water for over 3 hours a warm shower and a free hot dog were very much appreciated by the participants.
Very strong winds on Sunday morning put paid to any further racing, so the final finshing order remained as Jarvis Harrop (SBSC) in first, Hamish Cowell (BYS) in second and Edward Warner (BYS) in third. Full results.
Well done to all the Minnow sailors and thanks to the SSCBC for putting on a great event.
