1933: The Hume Football League was formed as a splinter group from the Central Hume Football Association when three clubs - Jindera, Gerogery and Lavington - found the travelling too much and with the Albury based Border United they formed a four club competition - The Hume Football League - which went until 1940, when World War 2 interrupted.
1934: Border United disbanded and Bethanga admitted.
1935: The Central Hume Association, disbanded; Walla Walla, Walbundrie and Burrumbuttock applied for admission, which was finally granted.
1936: Wagga Road admitted, Gerogery wins it’s fourth successive premiership.
1939: Bethanga and Wagga Road left competition; 14 Lavington players reported and six suspended as a result of brawling etc., in grand final.
1940: Lavington withdrew from competition.
1945: Five clubs - Brocklesby, Balldale, Rand, Walbundrie and Walla Walla “recommenced” the Hume Football League. George Azzi (Brocklesby) elected President and Allan Falkiner (Rand) elected Secretary.
1946: Balldale joined Chiltern & District League; Jindera and Gerogery admitted.
1947: Balldale returned and Burrumbuttock admitted. Best and Fairest player award inaugurated by Mr. Kelly Azzi of Balldale.
1948: Gerogery disbands and East Albury Rovers admitted.
1950: Hume Junior competition formed - St. Paul’s College, Balldale, Jindera, Walbundrie and Walla Walla fielded under age (19) teams.
1951: East Albury Rovers disband and North Albury admitted.
1953: North Albury joins Ovens & Murray reserves’ competition and Howlong admitted from Chiltern & District League.
1954: Howlong undefeated premiers.
1959: Mr. George Azzi retires as President, succeeded by Mr. H. T, “Bert” Webb.
1962: Des Kennedy commenced as Secretary/Treasurer.
1964: Jindera undefeated premiers; Merv Wegener (Walla Walla) becomes first player to win two Kelly Azzi medals.
1970: Boree Creek and Osborne admitted. Clubs cleared from Central Riverina League by Joint Appeals Board hearing at Yerong Creek.
1972: Balldale undefeated premiers.
1974: Balldale disbands.
1975: Lavington admitted (club also fielding teams in Tallangatta League).
1976: Boree Creek cleared to Coreen League; reserve grade competition introduced; junior competition becomes under 16s; Mr Webb retires as President and succeeded by Mr. Max Johnston (Balldale).
1977: Lavington leaves competition and replaced by newly formed East Lavington Club; Hume junior competition disbands and thirds (U16s) come under the banner of the senior body.
1980: Henty admitted - cleared by Farrer League.
1981: Culcairn and Holbrook refused admission on two occasions. October: Rand cleared to Coreen League and Lockhart admitted.
1982: Lockhart entered the League and won the premiership under the legendary Tim Robb. Craig Lieschke (Henty) & Graham Johnstone (Lockhart) joint winners of the Azzi Medal.
1983: Mr Garry O’Connell (Osborne) succeeds Mr. Max Johnston as President; Hume defeats Ovens & King at Brocklesby in the final of the Riverina/North East District Leagues’ Championship to win the Tom Sherrin Cup for the first time.
1984: Henty undefeated premiers, the club’s first flag in 47 years; Craig Lieschke (Henty) becomes the second player to win two Kelly Azzi Medals (1982/1984).
1985: Hume defeat Coreen at Rennie for their second Riverina/North East title.
1986: Golden Jubilee Season; President, Garry O’Connell awarded VCFL Recognition of Service Medallion; Merv Wegener and Bill Thomas awarded Hume League Life Membership; Des Kennedy’s 25th term as Secretary/Treasurer. Hume defeat Ovens & King at Tarrawingee to win the Tom Sherrin Cup for the third successive series. David Schilg (Burrumbuttock) wins Kelly Azzi Medal & Henty Club creates history by winning premierships in all three grades.
1987: Hume win Ross Faulkner Cup when they take the Riverina/North East title for the fourth time by defeating Ovens & King at Walbundrie.
1988: Hume & Tallangatta play draw in final of Riverina/North East championship; Terry O’Halloran (Howlong) wins Kelly Azzi Memorial Medal for second time, joining Merv Wegener (Walla Walla) and Craig Lieschke (Henty) as dual winners of the award.
1989: Terry O’Halloran (Howlong) wins Kelly Azzi Memorial Medal for third time, becoming the first player to top the honour on three occasions.
1990: Henty defeats Jindera in grand final to become the outright holders of the Beers’ Abattoir Trophy, having previously taken the award in 1984 & 1986.
1991: League decided to no longer use count-back system in the event of a tie in the Kelly Azzi Medal and award retrospective medals to Barry Lambert (Jindera) 1966; Barry Mathews (Rand) 1967; Graham Johnstone (Lockhart) 1982; and Robert O’Connell (Osborne) 1988. David Schilg (Burrumbuttock) and Warren Sykes (Lockhart) joint winners of the Kelly Azzi Medal. Schilg joining Merv Wegener (Walla), Craig Lieschke (Henty), Terry O’Halloran (Howlong) and Rob O’Connell (Osborne) as the only players to have won the award on more than one occasion.
1992: Culcairn admitted to League - League withdraws from Riverina/North East titles - Sean Nesbitt (Walbundrie) wins Kelly Azzi Medal. The League was shocked by the sudden death of its longest serving and most respected member Des Kennedy. He was serving his 31st term as Secretary.
1993: Henty kicked a League record score in round 3, 44.25-289, only to have it beaten in round 5 by East Lavington, 48.31-319. Shannon Barber (Culcairn) kicked 24 goals in a match to set a new league record and went on to win the goal kicking with 102 goals. Peter Copley (Culcairn) wins the Kelly Azzi Medal.
1994: 4th grade becomes an official competition. Osborne and Walbundrie field 3rd grade teams. Steve Taylor (Brocklesby) wins the Azzi Medal. Culcairn and Osborne both reach their third successive senior grand final.
1995: Russell Smith (Osborne) wins the Azzi medal. U14 & U16 HFL representative sides both win against Coreen FL.
1996: H.F.L. successful against Farrer F.L. in U16 & U25. East Lavington goes into recess for 1996. History was created when Michael Killeen and Scott McGrath (both from Culcairn) tied for the Azzi Medal. The HFL interleague football defeating Farrer F.L. in both U16’s and U21’s. The annual junior day against Coreen resulted in Hume winning the U14’s and losing the U16’s.
1997: East Lavington re-entered competition after one year out of football and managed to win three games for the season. Hume F.L. defeated Farrer F.L. but still finish second to Picola F.L. in interleague footballs’ new format this year. Both U16’s & U14’s were successful against Coreen F.L. Howlong wins the Premiership in its Centenary Year.
1998: Garry O’Connell re-elected President (16th term); Barry Malone elected Secretary. East Lavington folded as a football club. A final five introduced on a trial basis. Long serving Walbundrie Director, Bill Thomas awarded A.O.M. in Australia Day Honours. Holbrook admitted to the League by an Independent Appeals Board (as from season 1999). Osborne wins the Club Championship (first time since joining the league in 1970). Lockhart coach, Shane Lennon wins the Azzi Medal with 32 votes. Osborne and Henty meet in the grand final. Osborne wins its fifth Premiership in the 1990’s.
1999: Gary O’Connell re-elected President (17th term); Barry Malone re-elected Secretary (2nd term). Holbrook enters the League with all four teams. Final Five format continues. Henty & Jindera Clubs celebrate Centenary Years. Lockhart wins the Club Cship (first time since joining in 1982). Lockhart ruckman Paul Scoullar wins the Azzi medal with 32 votes. Three players - Anthony Carroll, Lockhart (121), Troy Hawkins, Jindera (115) & Mark Bryne, Holbrook (104) all kick 100 plus goals. Hume League plays Farrer League in Seniors & Juniors - wins the Juniors. Hume League defeats Coreen League in both U/14’s & U/16’s at Jerilderie. Osborne defeats Lockhart by 1 point in the Grand Final, their sixth premiership in the 1990’s. Gavin Graetz (Osborne) wins Des Kennedy Medal.
2000: Mervyn Wegener elected President after serving the League as Vice President for 22 years. Garry O’Connell (President for 17 terms) did not seek re-election and was awarded Life Membership of the League. Holbrook wins the Club Championship. Stephen Clarke (Osborne) wins the Azzi Medal with 32 votes. Coreen League defeats Hume League in both U/14’s and U/16’s at Culcairn. Osborne defeats Howlong in the Grand Final. Craig Smith (Osborne c.c.) wins Des Kennedy Memorial Medal.
2001: Mervyn Wegener retains Presidency of the League (2nd term), Garry Mickan succeds Merv as Vice President, Dallas Kotzur takes over the Treasurer’s role from Mick Broughan, Barry Malone continues as Secretary (4th term). Hume League wins all three games against the Farrer League in the respresentative Fixture at Holbrook and regains both Juniors Trophies (Hugh McLaughlin and Des Kennedy Shields) against the Coreen League. Stephen Clarke (Osborne) wins his second Azzi Medal in succession. Osborne defeats Holbrook in the Grand Final to win 4th flag in succession and 8th in 12 years.
2002: Merv Wegener re-elected for his third term as President. Graham (Bluey) Harper succeeds Garry Mickan as Vice President. Dallas Kotzur and Barry Malone continued as Treasurer and Secretary respectively. Hume League defeated the Coreen League in the U.14’s but lost in the U.16’s on “Juniors Day” at Henty. Two players from the League drafted - Adam Schneider (Osborne) to the Sydney Swans and Henry Playfair (Holbrook) to the Geelong. Holbrook’s Noel Coutts and Anthony Ross of Howlong tie for the Azzi Medal on 27 votes. Lockhart wins the Club Championship. Howlong defeats Osborne in the Grand Final. Ben Cain (Howlong) wins the Des Kennedy Memorial Medal.
2003: Karl Lezius replaces Dallas Kotzur as Treasurer; other Executive continue. Hume League plays Inter League football against Farrer League at Wagga and Juniors against Wagga & District – loses all three games. In the Juniors Day at Oaklands – wins the U.14’s but loses the U.16’s. Holbrook’s Noel Coutts wins the Azzi Medal with 32 votes (second in successive years). Walla (in its Centenary Year) wins the Club Championship. The Hume Netball Association re-introduces Best & Fairest Voting and joins the League in both Vote Counting and Trophy Presentations at our annual Dinner. Lockhart defeats Holbrook in the Grand Final. Josh Firman (Lockhart) wins the Des Kennedy Memorial Medal.
2004: The Executive remained the same. Hume defeats Coreen League in their annual juniors clash regaining Hugh McLaughlin Shield for U.16’s and retaining the Des Kennedy Shield for U.14’s. Holbrook wins the Club Championship. Three players shared the Azzi Medal - Brent Barber (Culcairn), Clint Gilson (Walbundrie) and Noel Coutts (Holbrook) - the first triple dead heat in the League’s history and Noel Coutts became the first player to win three successive Azzi medals. Hume League Trainers’ Association celebrates 22 years of service. Holbrook defeats Osborne in the Grand Final.
2005: Bert Haynes become Vice President in place of Graeme Harper. Hume League hosts Inter League at Culcairn – Riverina defeats Farrer, Black Diamonds defeats Hume. Brent Barber (Culcairn) and Hayden Gleeson (Osborne) represent Hume League in Southern NSW Rep. Team Hume League defeats Coreen League in both U.14’s & U.16’s at Rennie. Osborne wins Football Club Championship. Jindera wins overall Champion Hume Club (Football and Netball). Hume Netball Assoc. introduce a Final Five System. Shaun Myles (Brocklesby) win the “Piney Pub” Goal Kicking Award with 103 goals. Osborne’s Cal McClay wins the Azzi medal, Osborne beats Culcairn in Grand Final.
2006: Barry Malone takes over Treasurers role with Christine Biar as Ass. Tres. Hume League participates in Inter League at Maher Oval with Black Diamond, Riverina & Farrer Leagues. Hume defeats Farrer to claim 3rd place. Brent Barber (Cul), Hayden Gleeson (Osb) and Brad Pearse (Lock.)chosen in NSW Country Squad. Hume League defeats Coreen League in U.14's at Rennie but loses U.17's. Osborne win Football Championship and Jindera the overall Club Championship. Shaun Myles (Howlong) wins the "Piney Pub" Goal Kicking Award with 110 goals. Adam Hansen (Howlong) wins the Azzi Medal with 27 votes. Osborne defeated Howlong in the Grand Final.
2007: The Executive remains the same. Murray Magpies admitted to the League. All eleven Clubs all have four teams. No Senior Rep. Football - Hume League defeats Coreen League in both U.14's and U.16's at what looks likely to be the final Juniors Day. Osborne wins the Football Championship and Howlong the overall Champion Hume Club. Brent Barber (Culcairn) wins the Azzi Medal with 24 votes. Shaun Myles (Howlong) wins the "Piney Pub" goalkicking with 113 goals (third successive year of 100 plus goals. Osborne President Garry O'Connell made a life member of AFL (NSW/ACT) and Trevor Smith (Culcairn) is awarded the AFL Merit Award.Culcairn defeats Osborne in the Grand Final. Record gate of $27,530.00.
2008: AFL 150 years. Hume League 75 years. Four teams from former Coreen League admitted to Hume League – Billabong Crows (Oaklands/Urana), Coleambally, CDHBU (Coreen/Daysdale/Hopefield/Burraja United), Rennie. Executive remains the same. The League participates in the NSW Country Championships at Wagga - of the 12 Leagues represented Hume finishes a creditable third. Jindera wins both the Football Club Championship and the overall Hume Champion Club (Football & Netball). Graeme Fruean (Culcairn) wins the Azzi Medal. Jindera’s Mark Hilton with 89 goals wins the “Piney Pub” goal kicking award. Merv Wegener is awarded Life Membership of AFL (NSW/ACT), Barry Malone awarded Life Membership of the Hume League. Jindera 20.11 (131) defeates Osborne 12.8 (80) in the Grand Final. Ben Ryan (Jindera) awarded the Des Kennedy Memorial Medal.
2009: Rennie moves to Picola League a 14 Club League. Liz Lane appointed Assistant Secretary. The League played the Tallangatta League in Representative Football - won the U.14's but defeated in U.17's and Seniors. Rand-Walbundrie Tigers win the Football Club Championship and Jindera the Champions Hume Club (Football & Netball). Nathan McPherson (Lockhart) wins the Azzi Medal for Best & Fairest in the League. Aaron Barnes (Howlong) with 88 goals wins the "Piney Pub" goalkicking award. Osborne defeats Jindera in the Grand Final - Djali Bloomfield awarded the Des Kennedy Memorial Medal.
2010: League Executive remains the same. Hume League played Tallangatta in Inter-League football at Wodonga - Hume wins the Seniors and Tallangatta the two Junior games. Walbundrie Club celebrates its Centenary year. Culcairn wins both the Football Club Championship and the overall Champion Hume League Club (Football & Netball). Trent Storey (Brock-Burrum) wins the Azzi Medal with 24 votes. Aaron Barnes (Howlong) with 69 goals wins the "Piney Pub" goalkicking award in the Seniors. Djali Bloomfield (Osborne) wins the NAB Rising Star Award. Howlong 15-7 (97) defeats Culcairn 10-9 (69) in the Grand Final - Steven Fourace (Howlong) awarded the Des Kennedy Memorial Medal.
2011: Coleambally transferred to Farrer League. Executive remains the same. The League played Tallangatta at Lavington Sports Ground - winning the Seniors and Under 17's. Holbrook wins the Football Club Championship, Murray Magpies the Netball Club Championship and Jindera the Champion Hume League Club (Football & Netball). Mikal Bloom (Holbrook) wins the Azzi Medal with 25 votes. Darren Bradshaw (Howlong) wins the "Piney Pub" goalkicking award with 102 goals. Ben Klemke (Henty) wins the NAB Rising Star Award. Jindera 16-14 (110) defeats Holbrook 12-8 (80) in the Grand Final - Brett Garland(Jindera) awarded the Des Kennedy Memorial Medal.
2012: The Hume League play Tallangatta & District League in Representative Football – T. & D. wins the Seniors and Hume the U. 17’s and U.14’s. Osborne wins the Football Club Championship; Murray Magpies the Netball Club Championship and Holbrook the League Club Championship (Football & Netball). Jamarl O’Sullivan (Henty) awarded the Azzi Medal with 26 votes. Daniel Bradshaw (Howlong) with 89 goals wins the Piney Pub Goal Kicking award. Beau Walker (Howlong) awarded the NAB Rising Star Award. Osborne defeats Henty in the Grand Final. Rory Muggivan awarded the Des Kennedy Memorial Medal.
2013: The Hume League play Tallangatta & District League in Representative Football – T. & D. wins the Seniors and Hume the U. 17’s and U.14’s. Brock-Burrum Saints wins the Football Club Championship; Murray Magpies the Netball Club Championship and Brock-Bururm Saints the League Club Championship (Football & Netball). Peter Hancock (Howlong) awarded the Azzi Medal with 24 votes. James Breen (Holbrook) with 80 goals wins the Piney Pub Goal Kicking award. Justin Gordon (Rand Walbundrie Tigers) awarded the NAB Rising Star Award. Brock Burrum 18.8.116 defeats Holbrook 13.8.86 in the Grand Final. Kylin Morey awarded the Des Kennedy Memorial Medal.
