Crusaders Crowned Women's Division Champions!

This week signifies the end of the 2016/17 EKBL Women’s Division, with the exception of a few rescheduled matches still to be played, and saw Canterbury Crusaders retain the title for the fourth consecutive year, with an impressive 11 wins out of the 12 games played.

In their last league match of the season, Crusaders played second place Herne Bay in a home fixture, who in their last meeting came so close to beating the Champions. But it was Crusaders day again as they took a 45-35 win to end their league campaign on a high.

Crusaders only defeat was the first in an unbeaten four year run at the hands of Canterbury Christ Church University, who are experiencing a late winning streak in their last four matches following the Christmas break. Taking into account the rescheduled matches still to be played there is still the chance that Christ Church could snatch second place in the league, as could their closest rivals University of Kent!

Despite the champions already determined, there is still much to play for in the Women’s Division, and next week also sees the beginning of this year’s Grove Cup, a round-robin competition which sees all teams play each other for one more time this season, and the top four teams battle it out at the end of season Finals Day event!
