Current part-time League Operations Officer Sharon O’Dwyer will take on a full time League Operations role next season following the announcement of the departure of Ted Lindon from AFL Goulburn Murray.
Lindon is departing his role as League Operations Officer responsible for the KDFNL and the GVDSTA for overseas travel and then to return to Melbourne.
O’Dwyer, who has been instrumental in the successful set up of the MBCM Northern Country Women’s League, will formally take up full time duties after the Christmas break.
AFL Goulburn Murray Region General Manager Martin Gleeson acknowledged Lindon’s contribution to the KDFNL and congratulated O’Dwyer on her appointment.
“Ted joined us on a short term contract just prior to the 2016 finals series and immediately hit the ground running and the KDFNL Board had no hesitation in recommending him for the full time role at the end of the season” he said.
“He has continued to grow both personally and professionally over the past 12 months and his humour and good nature will be missed in the office.”
“Importantly, he won’t be lost to the region as he will continue as co-Captain at Shepparton Bears and we wish him the best of success as he returns to Melbourne and pursues other interests.”
“Sharon brings significant club and general administration experience to the role with her role as Secretary at Shepparton United and her work with the CFA and more recently at Greater Shepparton City Council.”
“Sharon was also pivotal in the successful establishment of our Women’s League last season and with Ted having playing commitments Sharon took on a match day management role during the KDFNL finals series.”
“She will continue to head up the Women’s League as well as the KDFNL with Melissa Wells providing administrative support in the office for female football match day processing.”
“Another exciting part of this restructure is that we will advertise for a part time Netball Administration role in the new year to work during the season providing specific operations and administration to our partner League netball competitions.”
“This will be a great opportunity to develop a specific netball resource for competition and League benefit.”
“The new staff structure will come in effect when Ted departs this Thursday and Sharon will take over the reigns immediately.”
KDFNL President Wayne Ryan paid tribute to both individuals.
“Ted has done a great job with the League over the past 18 months” he said.
“He has developed some great friendships in Board members and in clubland and his contribution to our League has been very important.”
“We also welcome Sharon to the KDFNL. She worked with us during the recent finals series so knows the KDFNL environment and we have no doubt she will be a great asset for us and KDFNL clubs.”
