On 9 June the AFL Goulburn Murray Commission launched its Junior Football Future Directions Project, one of its major projects for 2017.
In line with the Commission’s Strategic Plan, the Project has a focus ‘to examine the structure and format of junior football in the Goulburn Murray region and design and recommend a model for the future.’
In a major undertaking, 27 community football representatives have been assembled into four Project Teams to discuss concepts, debate ideas and develop recommendations to be considered by the Steering Committee. Project Team members have been nominated by their League and thus represent all corners and junior football configurations in the region.
The launch of the Project coincided with the release of an online survey which has been distributed to all clubs in the region. The response from the survey was excellent with 69% of clubs submitting their views on the 22 questions asked.
The detail of the Review has been undertaken over the past four months with four Project Team meetings held along with seven Steering Committee meetings.
As a result of these workshops the Steering Committee has worked through the outcomes from each Project Team and drafted preliminary recommendations.
To go to the next step the Committee is holding club forums for the draft recommendations to be presented to all clubs. Each forum will follow the same format and consist of a presentation on the project’s evolution and draft recommendations and then also a question and answer section.
Following the completion of the forums the draft project report will be distributed to all clubs with a feedback period available for any written submissions to be received by the Steering Committee before the final recommendations are handed down. The details of the upcoming forums are as follows:
Monday 30 October - 7pm at Haw Pavilion, Echuca FNC
Tuesday 31 October - 7pm at Seymour Club, Seymour
Wednesday 1 November - 7pm at AFL Goulburn Murray, Kialla Park Community Centre
Thursday 2 November - 7pm at Cobram Barooga Golf Club
There is no need to RSVP for any of the forums and there is no limitation on the number of people who may attend from each club.
Whilst each forum will deliver the same content individuals are welcome to attend multiple sessions if they wish.
This project has been a significant piece of work during this season and the process has provided an opportunity for the current structure of junior football in the region to be debated and discussed with an eye on what will provide the best junior system to sustain our clubs into the future.
I look forward to your club being represented at the forums.
Regards,
Martin Gleeson
Region General Manager
