Eight teams and a major partner are now in place for the inaugural Northern Country Women’s League season launched as a partnership between the AFL Region Commissions of Goulburn Murray, Central Victoria and Central Murray.
The eight teams which will make up the League are confirmed as: Benalla Saints, Bendigo Thunder, Echuca, Kerang, Kyneton, Mooroopna, North Bendigo, Shepparton.
MBCM Strata Specialists have stepped up to the plate as the major partner for the new league which will be officially called the ‘MBCM Northern Country Womens League’ for the next two years.

AFL Goulburn Murray Region General Manager Martin Gleeson congratulated the clubs on embracing female football.
“We have had a great response to the new competition and its exciting that we will have an eight team league up and going in the first year” he said.
“Experienced club administrator Sharon O’Dwyer has been appointed as the League’s administrator and she will be based in our office at Kialla Park as the main operations contact.”
“One of Sharon’s first tasks will be to put together a fixture which will be presented to clubs for feedback and comment at the first meeting next week.”
“Emma and Amelia from MBCM Strata Specialists have been very supportive of the competition and its great to have them as the League’s inaugural naming partner.”
“I would also like to acknowledge the support from the Australian Sports Foundation in being a major contributor in getting the League up and going.”
MBCM Strata Specialists Shepparton, Echuca & Seymour Director Emma Glazebrook is excited at her company being part of the League’s set up.
“Female football is growing rapidly and we are excited to be part of the first women’s league in northern Victoria” she said.
“We have been watching the AFLW competition over the past few weeks and its fantastic to see more and more opportunities for females to be physically active in sport and we want to help promote those opportunities in our local community.”
