AFL Goulburn Murray has announced its staff structure for the 2017 season after two new additions and an internal restructure has been completed.
Katandra resident Mason Thorn joins the team in the role of Commercial & Marketing Officer and Shepparton United Secretary Sharon O’Dwyer will take responsibility for the administration of the Northern Country Womens League joint partnership with AFL Central Vic and AFL Central Murray.
Thorn completed his Master of Business at Deakin University at the end of last year having previously completed a Bachelor of Business (Sport Management) in 2014. With work experience as a Digital Sales Coordinator in Melbourne and intern stints with the South Metro Junior Football League and Eastern Ranges Thorn will also draw on his junior playing days at Katandra to drive league and Commission partnerships and expand communications activities.
Unfortunately, Josie Logan will be relinquishing her AFL GM role in netball administration. With her Netball Victoria development work commitments also growing the workload of managing the two roles simultaneously has become problematic and she has reluctantly decided to step back on the administration component of her role.
Josie has done a tremendous job in establishing a positive working relationship with GVNL clubs over the past 12 months and in working towards the amalgamation of the football and netball Leagues. Josie’s Netball Victoria role will continue to be based out of the AFL GM office.
Melissa Wells has accepted the role of providing netball administration to the GVL, KDFNL and Seymour DJFNL. Melissa’s contribution has continued to grow over the past 18 months and this will be another step in her development along with her continuing to provide general office support and administration.
Finally, Sharon O’Dwyer has joined the team in a League Operations Officer role one day a week with the primary focus to administer the newly formed North Country Womens League. Sharon is a well credentialed club administrator and her knowledge and experience will be invaluable to establishing the new League.
After taking over the reigns as League Operations Manager in August last year Grant Wilson continues to provide management across all partner Leagues whilst also managing the GVL’s operations. Ted Lindon has taken on responsibility for the administration of the KDFNL and the Goulburn Valley Sports Trainers Association and Bree Boyle continues to drive junior football administration across the Commission’s three standalone junior Leagues.
As a result of this increased activity Michelle Adams’ role as the Commission’s consultant accountant is expanding and Trevor Mellington, Mark Lamboun and Greg Liddell continue to provide outstanding service to the community as Football Development Managers.
The Commission formally welcomes the above structure and all staff are looking forward to the start of the football netball season over the next month.
