A public meeting will be held at Memorial Oval, Euroa, on Wednesday 15 February for all interested players and parents/guardians to discuss the formation of a Youth Girls team being formed out of Euroa and surrounding towns for the 2017 season. The meeting will commence at 7pm.
Euroa Junior Football Netball Club, in consultation with AFL Goulburn Murray and the Shire of Strathbogie, is keen to drive the formation of an U18 girls football team playing out of Euroa. It is envisaged this team would comprise of players not only from Euroa but from the surrounding towns such as Seymour, Mansfield, Benalla, Yea, Alexandra, Violet Town, Longwood, Nagambie, Avenel and Strathbogie.
Euroa have already secured the services of Maddi Kindellan (refer attached photo), a highly respected local coach who is currently employed as a teacher at Euroa Primary School.
Maddi grew up in Leongatha, South Gippsland where she followed in the footsteps of her older brother Jack taking part Vic-Kick when she was 5 and then progressing into AusKick until she was 11 years old. Maddi then played junior footy with Leongatha Parrots where she was the first girl to play for the club and league. She had to stop after U14s because girls weren't allowed to play on after that. This was very devastating and is one of the driving factors for Maddi to provide opportunity for girls beyond this age level in the Euroa and district area.
Maddi moved to Bendigo in 2010 to attend university and was involved in the establishment of Bendigo Thunder, the first women's footy team in the Bendigo region. Since the team’s inception in 2011, Maddi has had a number of successes both personal and team orientated. Maddi was awarded the Debbie Lee medal for the best first year player in the Victorian Women’s Football League in 2011, represented Vic Country in 2012 and was a member of back to back premiership teams for Bendigo Thunder in 2012 and 2013.
Maddi’s leadership qualities were recognised in her being a member of the Bendigo Thunder leadership group from 2011 to 2015. Maddi played through the midfield and as a key position player and spent her last playing season at full back.
In recent times, since moving to Euroa, Maddi has helped coach youth girls teams in Bendigo, V-Line Cup teams, school teams and has assisted with the coaching of the Euroa's U12 in 2016. Maddie loves watching footy on TV, especially supporting the mighty bombers!
